Aalto Recoded™ SPRING SUMMER 24: RE/SOUL
Designer and creative director of Aalto International Tuomas Merikoski invited Kalevala to be part of the Aalto Recoded™ collection show at the Fashion in Helsinki event. Tuomas Merikoski has previously had a career as a designer in France, e.g. Louis Vuitton and Givenchy.
In the Aalto Recoded™️ collection, responsibility is literally coded into clothes that are made only from used materials. The iconic Kalevala jewelry was included as part of the Aalto collection. Kalevala Koru shares the same ideology of craftsmanship, combining innovative technology and sustainable production . The recycling rate of the precious metal used in the production of Kalevala jewelry is high, 100% for gold and more than 99% for silver.
At the Fashion in Helsinki show on the runway and in the showroom, our jewelry was seen, e.g. Planetary Valleys , Cataract , Darina's Jewel , Gelo , Paio , Gonda's Mask , Gravity and treasures from the archives. In addition, Kalevala was presented in Paris alongside Tuomas Merikoski to international buyers.
What is the Aalto Recoded™️ collection about? The answer to that was found at the Fashion in Helsinki show. The global fashion industry produces 80-150 billion pieces of clothing per year, while one garbage truck's worth of clothing is thrown away every second. This waste problem is naturally catastrophic for the environment, but it also offers an opportunity for bold new ideas.
Aalto steps away from old formulas with the Recoded™ collection, which creates a new, unique design from the old. Aalto Recoded™ is committed to creating traceable fashion; it is an experiment in which carefully selected, used clothes are updated into today's design and they enrich their wearer with their stories.
At the show, Aalto Recoded™ presented the Spring Summer 24 collection RE/SOUL, which combines Merikoski's mission to create fashion by reusing the material of used clothes with revolutionary art. RE/SOUL crystallizes the dialogue between clothes and the body; it breaks the fine line between femininity and masculinity through the play of intriguing clichés into industrial workwear that reflects the liberated art deco era. Aalto is a brand of Finnish origin operating in Paris that brings responsibility into its collection. Designer Tuomas Merikoski combines the honest essence of Finnish youth with French sophistication.
